Midnight

Midnight is inside at the shelter.  She is a super calm and sweet girl but on the shy side.  She loves gentle pets and a calm household would be her ideal.  She came from a village where she occasionally was in a team but is such a petite girl that she rather enjoyed being more of a pet.  She has a boxy face and was quite emaciated when she first came in.  She is gaining weight (although she has a long way to go) so just needs more confidence and a good loving home to make her life happy.

Sable

January 29, 2010  We ran Sable in a 10 dog team.  She is a shy girl that would warm up quickly if given a chance.  She likes to go and might make a good rec dog where she isn't under a lot of pressure.  She has good weight at around 45 pounds.

Hoodoo (House M)

January 29, 2010  Hoodoo came in along with his kennel mate Brooks.  They are both very shy dogs.  They seem quite traumatized to be at the shelter.  Hoodoo is a young male about 50 pounds.  He is strong with a good attitude.  He crabs when he trots but a half harness might solve that.  He likes to go and would make a good rec dog.  Supposedly he has some miles on him this year already.  He has that "soft" look about him that if someone just gave his patience and kindness he would turn out to be a friendly and giving boy.  He just needs time and a gentle person.   He did take us all the way back to the truck in lead.

Huey

Huey is back.  He was adopted out to a pet home.  They had him for quite awhile but he needs more exercise and stimulation than they could give him.

We ran him back in August and he did great.  He has gained quite a bit of weight in his new home but looks pretty good.  Huey is inside at the shelter and has good manners and a clean kennel.  He would be a great rec dog/pet and loves running.

Lena

UPDATE January 30, 2010  We ran Lena in a 10 dog team.  She is a nice running dog and has a beautiful lope.  She has good drive.  When she broke into a trot she crabbed a lot, but a half harness might solve that for her.  She is very very shy and would take a patient hand and lots of time for her to be comfortable with you.  She has not been socialized well at all but is a gentle and kind dog.  She is still spinning on her chain a lot but I think this is from being so stressed at the shelter and not used to people.  She is a young dog so could blossom with the right person.

Lena is a young (born April 2007) hound mix from good bloodlines.  She is VERY skittish.  I could barely get near this girl today.  She is constantly spinning on her chain and is just very scared to be at the shelter.  She will need a very gentle hand with patience to bring her around.  We will run her soon.  Lena is on house L.

Cutie stray Cage #28

Update 1-13-2010  I've been adopted and named Grace.

This tiny girl is a real sweetie.  She rolls on her back for rubs and leans up against the cage begging for some lovin'.  She is very petite and probably around a year old.  She just came in as a stray so she may be someone's dogs.  She will be available in a few days if no one claims her.  She would make a great kids dog or a pet or possibly a dog that could run all day.  I really like this girl.

Locomotive

Locomovtive is a young BEEFY boy.  This picture really doesn't tell the true story.  This dog is incredibly strong.  He is compact yet quite large.  He is all muscle and strength.  He will pull the average person off their feet.  He would do great in a back country team where his strength and perserverance will carry him over the roughest trails.

He is very affectionate to the point of being grabby.  He knows "sit."  We don't know if he was a sled dog but he certainly has the build and the coat for it.

He is on house M.

The Team

We ran a 7 dog team today.  This is my dog Robin in lead with Cacti beside him.  She did a great job of leading and holding out the team.  You can see the legs of Noble in swing and Mohawk (left) and Chewy (right) in front of wheel.  (My little leader Loon is in wheel at this point).

Duracell

Duracell really wants to be retired.  We tried to run him in an 8 dog team but he couldn't keep up the pace and got extremely tired.  So Don carried him on the 4 wheeler.  He is a sweet boy that likes people.  Might be a bit grumpy with other males but he isn't neutered so that should help.  He is only 6 years old but I think he would like long walks in the woods and a couch to sleep on.

Chewy and Mohawk

Update January 2010  Mohawk has been adopted!  (and now March 1st. Chewy has been adopted also!)

Chewy is just a baby.  He came in with his brother Mohawk.  They are only 7 months old and already given up because their musher thought they were too slow for his team.  We see excellent potential in these 2 boys.  The loved to go.  To discount them at such a young age is sad.  We were running a pretty quick team and they drove and pulled hard for 3 miles without any signs of getting tired.  Mohawk is a little more focused than Chewy but both boys have a super life ahead of them as working dogs if someone will let them mature and grow into their bodies and feet.  They are on the small side right now but I think they will be around 50 pound dogs.  They are both extremely shy and "spooky."  More socialization will help them.  You can tell they really want to come out of their shells and be loved and petted but doesn't look like they got a lot of that in their short 7 months.  Chewy is barky at the shelter but Mohawk is very quiet.  At the truck and running they were different pups.  Tails wagging, happy happy boys.  They will need a gentle hand but I think if someone takes them these dogs will be very hard workers.  Supposedly they came from Yukon Quest/Iditarod lines.

I don't have a good single pic of Mohawk but you can see him in the team picture.  He is on the left and Chewy is on the right.  (Loon and Cessna behind them)
